Luke MacFadyen Obituary

Luke Sewall MacFadyen of White Road, Bowdoinham died peacefully on Sunday afternoon January 27th at his beloved Jupiter Farm after a brief and heroic struggle with cancer. He was attended by two dear friends and his sister Camilla MacFadyen Lewis and her husband Monty Lewis, and by his dogs Wilbur and Ophelia, whom he loved like family.

Luke was born in New York City on August 30, 1960 and grew up in New York’s Hudson Valley. He attended the Putney School in Vermont and the Boston University Program in Artisanry, where he earned a certificate of mastery in handweaving. He moved to Bowdoinham in 2009 and quickly became a vital and generous member of the community. He was a co-founder of both the Bowdoinham Food Pantry and the Bowdoinham Farmers Market, and he was a familiar and friendly fixture at the Long Branch School, the Bowdoinham Country Store, and the Bowdoin College cafeteria, where he worked.

Luke is survived by his sister Camilla and his brothers William and Tevere. He will be remembered for his generosity of spirit and warm sense of humor, his love of animals, and for all who were fortunate enough to get a taste, his sinfully sweet and rich cookies, brownies, and pastries. He will be profoundly missed.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Luke’s name to the Bowdoinham Food Pantry (http://thebowdoinhamfoodpantry.org/)
