Bath, Maine- Marcelle Demers Brown, 100, passed away on December 27, 2018 after a short illness.
She was the daughter of Alexina Martin Demers and Joseph R. Demers. She was born in Worcester, MA on August 26, 1918 and resided there until 1988 when she relocated to Maine.
Marcelle graduated from Commerce High School in 1936. Later in life she realized a long time goal at age 67 by earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Accounting from Clark University.
As a young woman, she was among the first female insurance agents at Metropolitan Life. After spending time at home with her four children, she worked for many years as a bookkeeper and accountant. She was employed by Mac Ben Sporting Goods, Educator’s Consultants Services, the law office of Edward McTighe and John Bath Company. Even after retirement she continued to serve as bookkeeper for a family business until nearly ninety years old.
She relocated to Kennebunk, Maine in 1988 in order to spend time with her four youngest grandchildren. She was a member and active volunteer at the Senior Center at Lower Village for many years. She enjoyed playing bridge and traveling with her family. Later she relocated to mid-coast Maine and resided in Brunswick, Topsham and Bath.
She will be greatly missed by her two daughters, Suzanne Lukas, wife of Mark, of Plaistow, NH and Beverly Lowery, wife of Julian, of Brunswick, ten grandchildren; Mary Crimmins Birnbaum, Francis Crimmins, Lorna Crimmins Williams, David Brown, Christine Brown, Jeffrey Brown, John Thomas Giblin, Amanda Giblin Hennessey, Allison Lukas Turner and Stephen Lukas. She will also be fondly remembered by her sixteen great grandchildren.
She was the youngest of six children. She was predeceased by her siblings, Blanche LeBlanc, Annette Poire, Laurette Barbeau, Ernest Demers and Georgette Rawlings, her husband of 34 years, Robert W. Brown, her oldest daughter, Joy Brown Crimmins who passed away in 2017 and her son, Robert W. Brown, Jr. who passed away in 2014. Marcelle's first child, a son, died at birth.
A celebration of life and burial will be at 11 A.M. on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Notre Dame Cemetery in Worcester, MA. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Plant Memorial Home, One Washington Street, Bath, Maine 04530 with a memo to Endowment Fund.
