Michael Harkins Sr. Obituary

   Georgetown - Michael David Harkins Sr., 60, of Five Islands Road died Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at MidCoast Hospital in Brunswick with his family at his side.
      Born in Bath on December 16, 1958; son of Mary Martha (Muckler) and Daniel O’Connor Harkins Jr.; he graduated from Morse High School in the class of 1977.  
    He was an active member of the union at Bath Iron Works where he was a welder, retiring in 2003. He was a jack-of-all-trades; as a talented carpenter, plumber, electrician, and farmer he could do anything from building homes to repairing cars. He was the maintenance handyman for Sarah’s Café in Wiscasset. One of his passions after retirement was spending time restoring the farmhouse he lived in with his longtime companion, Sarah Heald, taking care of animals and gardening.

     He had many long time friends he considered family and is survived by, three sons, Michael David Harkins, Jr., his wife Jennifer, Matthew Patrick Harkins, his wife Annmarie and Andrew “Jack” Jackson Harkins all of Bath, three daughters, Sara Jane Frazier, her husband Donald of Arkansas, Mary Elizabeth Harkins of Bath, Susan Marie Harkins and her fiancé Bob Fabiano of Salt Lake, Utah, two brothers, Patrick Harkins and his wife Beth of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Daniel O’Connor III, one niece, Stephanie Harkins, close cousin Milford Rice and eight grandchildren, Emily Frazier, Hazel, Rowan, and Willow Harkins, Amelia, and Lila Harkins, and Miles and Elizabeth Norris.

     He was predeceased by one nephew, Andrew Harkins.

     A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. For those who wish to contribute - in lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the COPD Foundation at copdfoundation.org.
