Donald Freeman Obituary

Phippsburg- Donald A. A. Freeman, 83, of Main Road died Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at his residence.

     He was born on French Island in Old Town on November 5, 1935 a son of Donald W. and Dorothy (Bussell) Freeman.

     He attended Brunswick schools and graduated from Morse High School in the class of 1954.  On December 1, 1955 he married Madelyn Holbrook.  He was employed as a truck driver by his father working on the Maine Turnpike and worked on his chicken farm.  He was employed at Bath Iron Works where he worked off and on until 1978. He worked many years as an Animal Damage Control Officer for the State of Maine and as a caretaker on Kennebec Long Island for 22 years. He was a self employed registered Maine Guide for over 60 years and a trapper until 2017.  Don was proud of being able to say he trapped muskrats on Monhegan Island and also planted trees in the Allagash.

     He was an avid hunter, and fisherman who enjoyed spending time at his camp at Sugar Island on Moosehead and his camp on Brassua Lake.

     He was a lifetime member of Maine Trappers Association. 

     He is survived by his wife, Madelyn Freeman of Phippsburg, three sons, Ernie Freeman and his wife Margaret of Phippsburg, Herb Freeman and his wife Nora of Bath and Stephen Freeman and his wife Debra of Phippsburg, four grandchildren, Joe Freeman, Ben Freeman, Derek Freeman and Stephenie Freeman, six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

     A graveside service will be held at Morningside Cemetery in Phippsburg at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Maine Trappers Association, 93 Arundel Road, Kennebunkport, 04046.  Arrangements are by Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High Street, Bath.
