Brunswick - Doreen Alice (Cook) Strout, 83, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2025. She was born in Ilford Essex, England on July 11, 1941, a daughter of Leonard Archibald Cook and Alice Winifred Ellen (Marsh) Cook.
She graduated in the English School System. Doreen met Robert Alden Strout while he was serving in the military and on June 11, 1960 they married. In 1970 they moved to Woolwich and she was employed at Central Maine Power Co. In 1978 they purchased and operated Kern’s Inn in Eustis and sold it in 1985. She returned to Bath and retired after many years as a bookkeeper for The Galley Restaurant.
In 1982, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert Alden Strout.
She is survived by her son Brett Robert Strout of Phippsburg, and his ex-wife Mary Loring Strout of Buxton: Her grandson Benjamin Strout and his wife Heather of Kennebunk and her great-grand-children Emmalyn and Alden Strout: Her granddaughter Katherine Strout of Berlin New Hampshire: Her grandson Andrew Strout and his wife Alicia of Saco and her great-grand-children Aubrey and Avery Strout.
She is survived by her son Larry Strout and his wife Darlene of Kingston, Oklahoma: Her grandson Brandon and his wife Jennifer of Oklahoma City and her great-grandson Knox Strout: Her grandson Travis Strout of Oklahoma City predeceased her. Travis is survived by his wife Tori Strout.
She is survived by her daughter Beth Doreen Strout and her partner Donnie Handrahan of Carrabassett Valley.
She is survived by her brother, James Cook and his wife Pat, of Herne Bay, England, and her sister Ann Hunt and her late husband Graham of Braintree Essex, England.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews both in the United States and England.
Doreen was immensely proud of her family, children, grand-children, and great grand-children. She was a fighter to the end, a testament to her British upbringing, fighting to spend every ounce of energy to be surrounded by those she loved.
