Marjorie Pooler Obituary

Marjorie Cromwell (Bailey) Pooler passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026 at Winship Green, Bath Maine at the age of 91. She was born on May 25, 1934. She was the daughter of Herbert and Frances Cromwell and was brought up on Westport Island.

Marge graduated from Morse High School, Bath in June of 1953. She had aspirations of becoming a typist. She married John E. Bailey Sr. in June of 1953. Marge worked several jobs before settling in at the Wiscasset School Department as an office secretary. To most students, however, she was the resident “tooth puller”. Sadly, in February of 1978, John Sr passed away from complications following heart surgery. Marge kept busy with her work and stayed at the school department for 25 years, retiring in 1995.

In September of 1995, she married George Pooler. They spent their winters as residents of St. Cloud, Florida. George passed away in 2001. Many know Marge through her active life. She could be found residing in various bingo halls, cribbage games at WWC senior center along with attending their bi-monthly dinners. A couple of her favorite activities was to go to the casino with family and friends. She also enjoyed bowling which allowed her to travel to various states to participate in tournaments with her team. In her quiet time, she enjoyed putting together puzzles, doing word search and rooting for the Red Sox.

She is predeceased by her parents; sister, Virginia Anderson; 5 brothers, Calvin, Judson, Herbert, Frank & Charlie Cromwell and a step son Edwin Pooler.

Surviving is her daughter Debbie and husband Jeffery Speed of Wiscasset. 2 sons, Jeffrey Bailey and wife Debbie of Lexington and John Bailey Jr and wife Melissa of Wiscasset; sister-in-law, Joanne Cromwell; step daughter Janet Morgan; and step daughter-in-law Debbie Pooler. Seven granddaughters; 2 step granddaughters; one step grandson; 7 great grandchildren & several nieces and nephews.

There will be a celebration of life on June 27th at the Wiscasset Community Center starting at 1p. Interment will be at the Bailey cemetery in Woolwich.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to the Wiscasset Senior Center, which Marge was a very active member of.
