Nancy Longval Obituary

Nancy Chamberlain Longval, 89, of Hamilton, daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth “Betty” Chamberlain, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025. She was born in Reading, Massachusetts, on December 21, 1935, and was educated at Reading High School before attending Westbrook College in Portland, Maine, where she earned a degree in Secretarial Studies.

In her early years, she was employed by the Canadian Consulate in Boston, followed by The Colonial in Wakefield as their Events Manager. She worked at the local Hamilton Ski Slopes as an instructor when her kids were young, followed by 25 years at the White Elephant in Essex, where she thoroughly enjoyed visiting with her “regulars” selling antiques and secondhand finds.

Nancy married Armand “Sam” Longval on May 23, 1959, and they shared 52 memorable years together at their home on Moulton Street in Hamilton until his passing in April 2011. Nancy spent time at the Hamilton Council on Aging enjoying games, field trips and socializing as well as serving on their board.

In early 2023, Nancy moved to Brunswick, Maine, as a resident of Thornton Hall, where she met many new friends, attended numerous events, and enjoyed having her daughter close by during her final two years.

A lifelong fan of all sports, Nancy found great joy in cheering for her beloved teams—the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and Boston Bruins—always keeping up with the latest games and scores. She enjoyed many years watching her kids compete in various athletic events. Her competitive nature followed her throughout her entire life, whether it was playing

basketball for her high school and college teams, watching the game of the week on TV, or participating in her weekly bingo or football pool. She thoroughly loved the competition.

Her lifelong interests included watching birds in her backyard (especially cardinals), playing catch with her son, going for ice cream (mocha chip), enjoying local lunches of fried haddock

or a good burger, taking trips to Maine, reading thriller novels, relaxing on her porch or by the pool, writing poetry, and spending time with family, friends or her favorite cat.

Nancy was a devoted mother to her two children, Kerri Longval Bickford and her husband, Dwayne Bickford, of Topsham, and Glenn Longval of Essex. She was a loving grandmother to five grandchildren: Michael Longval and fiancé Katie Kotsiroplos, Nicole Longval and fiancé Jason Hanson, Kurt Prescott and husband Gavin Lankford, Logan Prescott and Maddison Prescott. She adored her Chamberlain nieces and nephews: Judy Hauswald, Betsy St. George, David Chamberlain, Steve Chamberlain, and Brian Chamberlain. Nancy had many close friends over the years, including her Reading Girls: Dorsie, Ellie, Liz, and Margie. She was predeceased by her dear brother, Richard “Dick” Chamberlain. Nancy’s feisty spirit will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and anyone who was fortunate enough to know her.

A graveside ceremony will be held on March 29, 11 AM at the Hamilton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to the American Heart Association @ heart.org or the

ASPCA.org. Condolences may be made online at www.DaigleFuneralHome.com
