Toinette Weybrant Obituary

Bath - Toinette  Barbara Lakin, 84,  passed away peacefully on Friday September 19, 2025, surrounded by family and loved ones.  She was born in Bath  on April 18, 1941.

Toinette graduated from Morse High School in Bath in 1959.  It was there she met her husband and together they were members of the Drum and Bugle Corps.  While her husband was stationed in the U. S. Marines, Toinette pursued her Nursing Degree graduating from Central Maine General Hospital School of Nursing in 1962.  While raising two young children, she returned to St. Joseph’s College graduating with a B.S. in 1976.  Toinette started her nursing career at the Hyde Rehabilitation Hospital in Bath,  in 1962 and then at Dr. Charles Burden’s office in 1986.  She worked at Bath Memorial Hospital from 1968 to 1986 where she held many roles from Medical/Surgical Charge Nurse, ICU Charge Nurse, Emergency Room Head Nurse to UR/DRG Coordinator. Her favorite nursing position was her final one at Community Health and Nursing Services (CHANS) where she found much joy in helping patients and families in their homes.  She loved patient care and continued to work part time for the CHANS private duty program until her well deserved full retirement in 2022.  Toinette provided vaccines at the local flu clinics for over 30 years.  She even provided COVID shots at the Mid Coast Hospital 2020-2021 clinics and received a 100-hour volunteer pin in 2022 for knitting baby hats.

Toinette was a proud, devoted wife to her high school sweetheart, the late Bruce M Weybrant.  Together, they built a beautiful life raising two children of their own and welcoming an extended family of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Toinette and Bruce enjoyed 40 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 2004.  Though her family and friends will mourn her loss, there is comfort in knowing she lived a long joyful life filled with travel, friendships, delicious food, and laughter.  She cherished her role of being a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Toinette lived life to the fullest.  She was an active member of the Morse High School Alumni community and founded the Red Capped Chickadees, the Bath Chapter of the Red Hat Society.  She and her fellow Red Hat Ladies had regular Movie Mondays, an annual Popham Beach picnic, summer pool parties at Marilyn Reed’s Home, and frequent gatherings at local restaurants where they always wore their purple outfits and red hats.  They also took many vacations to places including Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Washington D.C,  the Outer Banks, Nashville, Memphis, and Disney.  Toinette was a long-standing member of the Bath Area Senior Citizen Center where she kept the lobby candy jar full and was an avid line dancer.  She was always ready to move her feet to the music even when line dancing turned into chair dancing.  She continued chair dancing up until her final week.  Toinette was a true and proud “Bath Girl” and enjoyed New England history and was known for her ability to recite The Ride of Paul Revere in its entirety.

Toinette is survived by her daughter, Jill Weybrant, her husband, Mark Grandonico, and granddaughter, Rowan Alexander and her finance, Dustin Meyers.  She is also survived by her bonus children Michelle Alexander and her husband, Jose Solis, Michelle Berube and her husband, Tim Berube,  Lionel Hering and his wife Jennifer Hering; her bonus grandchildren Genevieve Hering and her husband, Will Mayo, Benjamin Hering, Timothy Berube, Lyle Hering, Jamie Hering, and Tucker Berube; and bonus great grandchildren Emery Berube and Emiline Mayo Hering.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce M. Weybrant, her son, Eric M Weybrant, her sister, Judith P. Pye (Lakin), her father, Samuel P. Lakin, JR.; and her mother, Margaret M. Gaudette (Lakin).

A graveside service will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bath on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 10 am. Entrance to the cemetery is between the ponds on Oak Grove Avenue.   Following there will be a gathering at the Bath Area Senior Center.  Light refreshments will be served.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the CHANS Hospice Team and Dr. Pamela Gardiner.  Toinette wished that memorial donations be made to CHANS Home Health and Hospice.
